Free Acrylic, Oil and Watercolor Demonstrations!

Artist Tony Zatzick to Give Oil and Watercolor Demonstration in the Avalon Gallery

Buddhist artists in western Afghanistan are credited with creating the first oil paintings sometime between the fifth and tenth centuries, while the roots of watercolor painting are said to extend back to the cave paintings of Paleolithic Europe. Once again, Plein Air Easton welcomes artist Tony Zatzick who will offer fun and informative demonstrations of these two influential art forms in the Avalon Theatre and just added an acrylic demo to the schedule.

July 17, Monday

  • 10 a.m. to noon, Hands-on demonstration of Winsor & Newton Artists’ acrylics, focusing on pigments, papers, color mixing, brushes, and mediums. Plan to stay and join Tony for a FREE paint out at 2pm - meet in the Avalon lobby for the paint out.

July 18, Tuesday

  • From 10 a.m. to noon, he will give a hands-on demonstration of Winsor & Newton Artists’ watercolors, focusing on pigments, papers, color mixing, brushes, and mediums.
  • From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Zatzick will demonstrate Winsor & Newton professional oil paints with a focus on pigments, mediums, color mixing, varnishing, and oil bars.

Originally from California, Zatzick has lived, worked, and exhibited in both Europe and the Americas. His work has been included for exhibition by many well-known artists and critics, such as Irving Sandler, William Bailey, and Barbara Grossman, and Bernard Chaet. After earning an MFA from Western Connecticut State University, Zatzick studied at the New York Studio School and interned for well-known artist Hugh O’ Donnell. With an expertise in art materials, his work has been included in exhibition alongside Philp Pearlstein, Janet Fish and Jamie Wyeth.
