Laurie Maher grew up in Connecticut, but has lived in New Jersey for the past 25 years. She holds an undergraduate degree in studio art from Trinity College in Connecticut, and a masters degree in painting from Marywood University in Pennsylvania. She received the award of Best New Artist at Plein Air Easton in 2021, and a Juror’s Choice award at Plein Air Easton 2022.
Laurie‘s love of the outdoors started in childhood, with family trips hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire or exploring the beautiful coastline of New England. Like many artists, Laurie‘s love of painting and drawing also started in early childhood, making plein air painting a natural fit. Her work strives to answer the question, “What made the artist choose to stop and paint this particular scene?”. With each new piece, Laurie strives to improve her skills of observation, depiction, and concentration, hoping to creating paintings that reflect why she chooses the Great Outdoors as her studio.
